Following an approach from IBANZ to Bell Gully and Mark Jennings at Newsroom their article last week on Loss of Rents insurance has been updated.  The original article suggested landlords would be able to claim on their insurance to cover rents unpaid by tenants due to COVID-19.

This is clearly misleading as the vast majority of policies in new Zealand have an exclusion for any loss arising in connection with a notifiable or infectious disease.

Jane Holland, Bell Gully Partner was approached regarding her comments and has now acknowledged the article was misleading.  They have now issued a new article dealing specifically with insurance and other key issues - available HERE 

Mark Jennings has also amended the article on the Newsroom web site to reflect the correct position - HERE
