Risk is becoming more complex. From natural hazards and economic uncertainty to cyber threats and changing regulation, New Zealanders are experiencing an increasingly challenging landscape. As these risks evolve, so too does the role of the insurance broker.

Next month, IBANZ will launch Risk Impact - The Value of New Zealand's Broking Profession, the first report of its kind to examine the contribution insurance brokers make to New Zealand's economy, businesses and communities.

Developed to provide an evidence-based view of the profession, the report looks at the growing value brokers create through trusted advice, risk management expertise and advocacy for clients. It highlights the important role brokers play in helping individuals and organisations understand risk, make informed decisions and recover more effectively when unexpected events occur. The report also considers how the profession is adapting to changing customer expectations, technological innovation and a plethora of evolving risks.

Key findings set to be unveiled include:

• A snapshot of New Zealand’s broking industry: workforce size, diversity, regional distribution, and education levels.

• The broking industry’s total Gross Written Premiums and contribution to New Zealand’s insurance market.

• New insights into claims volumes, including the average number of claims handled and the time taken to deliver payouts.

To mark the release, IBANZ will host exclusive breakfast events in Christchurch (14 October) and Auckland (15 October), where attendees will receive a first look at the report's findings. The events will bring together brokers, insurers, business leaders and industry stakeholders to explore the future of risk advice in New Zealand and discuss the profession's growing contribution to resilience and economic wellbeing.

The Auckland event will be joined by Hon. Cameron Brewer, Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs.
