Feature

Revolutionary technology from global risk management innovator, eDriving, has forever changed the way driving is measured, reported and improved. MENTOR by eDriving is a state-of-the-art digital driver risk management app that uses smartphone-based telematics to monitor driving behaviours and attitudes, and is proven to reduce fleet accident rates by over 25% within the first 12 months.

MENTOR assigns a FICO® Safe Driving Score predictive of a driver’s likelihood to incur a collision. It then helps to improve risky behaviour by prescribing interactive micro-training modules and coaching directly to drivers VIA the Mentor app. The tool is a must-have for any commercial fleet. Reducing vehicle claims delivers significant savings, in both direct and indirect costs. MENTOR is delivered by monthly subscription and delivers over 10 times ROI on the cost of service.

The New Zealand licence has been awarded to specialist accident management provider Crash Management. Managing Director Karen Knight says that the product is a perfect fit for the company’s portfolio of incident response and fleet risk management tools and services. The product was launched in New Zealand two months ago and trials are underway with market innovators including Ando InsuranceDonaldson Brown Insurance Brokers, and H&S consultants SafeWork NZ, as well as the NZ Institute of Driving Educators (NZIDE) as a learner driver support tool.

MENTOR is next generation telematics technology that displaces black-box GPS systems, it requires no hardware expense and is significantly more cost effective to operate.  This state-of-the-art smart-phone based app is a closed-loop learning system. It delivers a continuous and traceable learning programme including management oversight via the Vehicle Risk Management portal (VRM) while protecting driver privacy. Using smartphone sensors, the Mentor app collects performance data on driving behaviours most predictive of crash risk. This includes speeding, harsh cornering, hard braking, rapid acceleration, and distraction caused by use of phone calls and texts while driving. The powerful analytics engine evaluates drivers' behaviour after every trip and over time, and delivers dramatically deeper insights than legacy GPS products. This involves a patented five-stage approach to driver risk management used by Fortune 500 companies throughout the world. Clients are provided with the tools needed to maintain consistent communication with drivers and reinforce messaging to make safe driving an everyday priority. Mentor operates globally and helps organisations to successfully manage driver risk for approximately 1.2 million drivers across 125 countries.

Case Study

Fortune 500 company EcoLab operates 90 sites globally with 45,000 employees. Their MENTOR journey immediately identified that drivers involved in collision had significantly more risky driving behaviours than drivers who were not.  This may seem obvious, but was now backed by scientific evidence so could be targeted for improvement. Within just two months of implementation EcoLab experienced a significant reduction in the accident rate, the CPMM rate (crash per million miles travelled) plummeted 10% during that short period. Further into the trial EcoLab discovered that a CPMM reduction of 30% was achieved by test regions using MENTOR compared to regions that were not involved in the pilot programme. The FICO Safe Driving Score that analyses multiple driving behaviours was also very illustrative and delivered the transparency they needed. EcoLab observed that poor driving scores of 710 or below were twice as likely to be involved in an incident within the next three months. The initial pilot trial has now been rolled-out widely and has reduced overall crash rates by over 25%.

The evidence is in. MENTOR has forever changed the way driving skills and attitudes are measured, analysed and improved, and is a valuable accident mitigation tool.  Insurers and brokers interested in international best-practice and innovation will want to evaluate the extensive functionality and proven results delivered by MENTOR. Wide-spread uptake will help reduce New Zealand’s high vehicle crash statistics – we urge you to be part of the solution. Early adopters can learn more at www.crashmanagement.co.nz/Mentor/ or contact Crash Management for more information and a confidential discussion at enquiries@crashmanagement.co.nz.
